Joaquim Lima Goldenberg is a director, documentary filmmaker and photographer born in Rio de Janeiro. He holds a degree in Radio and Television from UFRJ, with an exchange period at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He was selected for the Canon Student Program at Visa pour l’Image, in Perpignan, in 2020, and for the Foundry Workshop of International Photojournalism at VII Academy in 2023. He is also a master’s researcher in Anthropology at the National Museum, UFRJ. Since then, he has focused his practice on documentary work, with projects for Canal OFF, Canal Futura, Revista Piauí, Bloomberg Foundation, Folha de S.Paulo, FUNBIO and other institutions. He has developed photographic projects about riverside communities along the São Francisco River, Pankararé Indigenous groups in Bahia, and young surfers from Rocinha. Joaquim works mainly on documentary series about people, territories and social initiatives in Brazil. He worked on the TV program “Parque do Italo”, which follows the daily life of Olympic medalist and world surfing champion Italo Ferreira, and was nominated for the 2022 New York Film and TV Festival. He was content coordinator for “Ideias para Mudar o Mundo”, a series that maps socioenvironmental initiatives across the country. He also directed the Globoplay documentary series “Histórias do Coletivo”, which shows how small-scale community projects can generate impact by connecting education, sport and culture. He is currently developing a project about fishing communities in more than 10 cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund, FUNBIO. As a cinematographer and director of photography, he worked on “Onde o Surfe Me Levou: Rocinha”, about young surfers from the favela, and “O Novo Ensino Médio: É sobre isso”, about public education. In photography he has also worked with brands such as Rock in Rio, Ford, PRIO, Bridgestone and Red Bull.
